TAHOE VISTA, CA – The Eagles started strong against William Jessup University (WJU) but were unable to ward them off. Sierra Nevada's (SNC) Alexander Moreno impressively got two goals within 6 minutes of each other in the first period with assistance from Izak Cortez (FR/Mesilla Park, NM) on the second goal. With the collision of WJU's goalie, Robert Harmelink, and Moreno, things turned around for SNC although they were ahead 2-0 by the end of the fist.
In the second, SNC tried to hold WJU off and had 10 shots on goal, but none were fruitful. After a number of injuries on both teams, WJU's Aaron Roundebush got them on the board in the 83rd minute. Incredibly, Edson Gomez, assisted by Roundebush, tied the game in the last 13 seconds, sending them into overtime. Five minutes into OT, WJU scored winning the match 2-3 .
The Eagles are next scheduled to travel to Oregon to take on Northwest Christian and Warner Pacific September 2nd and 3rd.
